Welcome

Welcome to 2600nl's wiki page. When we started this wiki, we never really thought about what we wanted to do with it except using it for our signup. Now we want to push this more into a community direction where people can leave their idea's, projects and thoughts. If you want to find us, we're usually on our IRC server, slackin'.

Who are we?

We are a (mainly) Dutch community. 2600nl Is formed out of an idea to have monthly meetings for hackers, makers, innovators to share ideas/thoughts and work on projects. We thought it would be an awesome idea to start these meetings and to unite our geek friends, just to see how it would go. In 2008 zkyp and DrWhax did this. Both being 2600 readers, they agreed to sync up with the rest of 2600 readers in the world and follow the first-friday-of-the-month scedule. Now, some years later, 2600nl turned into an actual community.

2600

2600: The Hacker Quarterly is an American publication that specializes in publishing technical information on a variety of subjects including telephone switching systems, Internet protocols and services, as well as general news concerning the computer “underground” and left wing, and sometimes (but not recently), anarchist issues.

Meetings

Our meetings are open to the public but it's still a hacker meet-up. That meaning that it isn't your usual group of friends going for a beer. For us, it kinda is. We don't look weird if someone doesn't tell you his last name or if he doesn't want to tell you about his personal life.
People often ask what a meet is like. The best way to describe it is “IRC but IRL”. There's usually a wide variaty of subjects like COMPUTARZ, security, technology, politics… just to name a few
We meet up at Utrecht Central Station. We used to meet up at the telephone booth to look oldskool but now that they have removed them we meet infront of the Burger King (and not eat there because it's the worst one in .nl). We then usually move to a pub for the foodz and le beers. If you're late, you can reach the nerds by ringing +316 2600 6800 (if you're late or a fed).
Because we meet in a pub, we usually reserve a table or two depending on how many people will join us. Therefor we kindly ask to signup before attending. If you're a paranoid hippy or have other reasons to stay anonymous (hoi lambert), you can always msg an operator on IRC.
